2 Chronicles 2 - What Makes Great?

Updated: Feb 12, 2021

“The house that I am to build will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.” 2 Chronicles 2:5

In our world today, what makes something great? He was a great man; she is a great woman. That is a great nation; they have a great leader. He has a great job that affords him a great lifestyle. I attend a great church. Our study verse has a crystal-clear ingredient for the greatness of something…is Almighty God the center of it. How can you be a great man or a great woman if your life is founded upon yourself and not upon the greatness of God? How can a church be great if it is not founded upon the greatness of fulfilling the purpose of a great God? Today our world deems that greatness can be achieved through will power, sheer determination, grit, self-drive, or personal steel. But Solomon, the wisest man in God's Word, would disagree with the idea that true greatness is something you can achieve and control to serve self. True greatness, truly witnessing something great, is solely based upon a God that is greater than all the gods we worship in this world. Unabated pride and selfishness can make us our own gods in this world, God is greater. The worship of work, money and materialism is a god to many today, making them feel great, God is greater. Nationalistic pride makes many feel that a government is great, serving great ideals in a great way, not so, God is greater. Today, humbly draw near to God and recognize His greatness. Recognize that in His greatness He made a way for you to live eternally. In His greatness He sent His only Son here to die for the sins of a wicked people. That all that call upon His name shall not perish but live. Call upon the name of Jesus today and allow Him to transform your life into something that is truly great. A life that has been redeemed by a great God.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” John 10:27-29
