2 Chronicles 20 - The Possession of the Battle

“…for the battle is not yours but God’s. You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position and see the Salvation of the Lord on your behalf…” 2 Chronicles 20:15,17

Some days it seems the world is against you. Problems and obstacles loom large over you. The dissention finds you so easily. The dilemmas abound and your path seems ever so jagged and dangerous. Your Earthly enemies surround you and the evil one, the one that controls this world, has you in his cross hairs, the flaming darts honed in on your peace, joy, and freedom. But as this daily battle threatens, did you know that God makes you a promise about it? You are not the one fighting. You are not the one on the front lines. You see, no matter how engaged you feel in the fight, you do not hold possession of the battle. The battle belongs to Almighty God. One of the most difficult truths to admit in my walk with Christ is just how utterly powerless I am. I have attempted to line up for battle countless times in my life, thinking I was strong enough, courageous enough, and brave enough to fight for myself. I wasn’t. In faith, I was not admitting who possessed the battle. But as multiple enemy armies surrounded the plains of Judah in 2 Chronicles 20, good king Jehoshaphat knew what I did not. He felt the threat, he feared the outcome, he worried for the safety of his people. But he also knew that wasting even one moment on his own processing of the event was for naught. It wasn’t his problem. It wasn’t his battle to fight…it was God’s. In a moving scene, he assembles the people of Judah together and father, mother, and child stand together in silent prayer before the Lord. With like hearts they admit they are weak, and God is strong. They admit they don’t have the answer and God does. And as a result, the people of God faithfully confess that the fight can only be won through the power and strength of Almighty God. Humble, faithful hearts aligned to confess to God that they know and embrace who He is. Today are you owning your own battles? How is that going? Until you truly give your battles to the One that owns them, you will continue to struggle with anxiety, fear, worry, and distress. You see, God never meant for us to own the battles, to fight them in our own power. God meant for us to draw near to Him, rest in His power, stand firm and simply hold our position...and then let Him fight. You heavenly Father owns the fight and in Him alone will you see the victory. Stand aside, and in great faith, let God fight for you today.

“For not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of your face, for you delighted in them.” Psalm 44:3
