LUKE 6

Good (early) morning! Marge & I are sitting at our gate at DFW at 5am starting our long journey to Hong Kong.

As we wait I'm spending time in God's Word as I literally watch the world walk by. Travelers from all over the world...different races, ages, sexes, ethnicities, nationalities and economic backgrounds, all moving from place to place to fulfill their purpose for the day. I'd like to stop everyone & ask them...what is your purpose today? I wonder how many have heard of Jesus and His plan for their lives? It makes me realize how much work there is to do in fulfilling the great commision.

In Luke 6 this morning I find Jesus calling the 12 disciples. In 6:12 it reads "in these days He went out to the mountain to pray, and all night He continued in prayer to God." The son of God, the messiah, the savior of the world...in prayer...all night.

Jesus is the perfect example for our lives and His prayer life offers us the perfect example of how we should be praying to our heavenly father. In this example as well as other instances, (Luke 5:16, Mark 1:35, Matt 14:23, Luke 22:41) we find Jesus withdrawing to quiet places to pray by himself.

It makes me introspective about my own prayer life. When was the last time I prayed to God all night? The last time I fell on my face before God in prayer? (Matt 26:39) Do I find quiet places like Jesus? I have a long way to go but I praise God for His Word and the perfect example of Jesus in it.

I've heard it said that through prayer we talk to God & through His Word He talks to us. You cannot have a complete communication model without the flow going each way. Jesus knew this as He was thoroughly immersed in the scriptures and constantly in prayer to the Father.

I have a leather bracelet that I wear and it says 'pray hard'. I constantly need that reminder that the God of creation is within reach & all I need do is speak to Him.

pray hard, my friends.
