Good morning friends! This morning in my 5MC I read in Mark 14:3-9 of the woman annointing Jesus with perfume. What a beautiful picture of a woman bringing the most precious possession she had in her life and giving it ALL to Jesus. This is one a few stories that appear in all four of the gospels. This is a message God wants us to hear...a picture of what Jesus wants from us..our ALL.
A few points to note in unpacking this story. 1) She knew Jesus, His life and who he was, hence why she would dipense the most precious possession she had on Him. Do you know OF Jesus or do you KNOW Jesus? 2) Her love of Jesus prompted her to action. She grabbed her perfume and went & found Jesus. We need to be willing to spring into action when Jesus calls. 3) She gave all. The perfume she had was worth approximately a years wages!! It was also held in an alabaster flask which was considered the finest of vessels. When she saw Jesus she didn't just sprinkle some on her hand and dab a bit behind His ears, she broke the jar & poured it over His head!! Wow, talk about all in!
Jesus asks for our all, not giving some time when it's convenient or what we have left over but our all. What a beautiful picture God gives us here in his Word of what it looks like to sacrifice to give it all.
