What is the 5 Minute Challenge?

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

The 5 minute challenge (5MC) is simply this, spend 5 minutes in God’s Word every day for 30 days.

Sounds simple, huh? Well if it’s so simple, then why is it so hard to do and why aren’t more people spending time in God's Word every day?

Here's how the 5MC works and how you can be successful with it. First thing every morning before the day gets a hold of you, grab your Bible & find a nice quiet place. This is part of the challenge in itself. Before you grab your phone, check your email, fire up the news or let any other source speak to your heart & influence you, go to God's Word & let God's voice be the first influence your day..."before you go to your phone, go to the throne.”

Now that you’re in your quiet place, pray. Pray for the Holy Spirit to awaken your heart to what you'll be reading. All scripture is 'God breathed' and He can make it come alive on a much deeper level if you simply ask. You need God to understand God.

To start the 5MC I recommend you start in the 4th book of the New Testament, the gospel of John. Either set a timer or glance at a clock & start reading. When the 5 minutes is up, STOP READING, DO NOT KEEP READING!! Mark your place, this is where you’ll start tomorrow. Now you can do one or two different things. Move on with your day & simply meditate on what you've read OR you can journal briefly every morning on how God spoke to you through His Word. I prefer to journal & that's what I share each day here on The5MC.com. I strongly encourage you to share yours as well. We are called to strengthen & encourage each other & your thoughts on God's Word might just be EXACTLY what someone else is needing to help them through their day’s struggles.

The challenge is to do this for 30 consecutive days. Initially you'll be surprised by 2 things. 1) how hard it is to get started because of all the distractions and demands we have in our lives and 2) after you get the ball rolling how many MORE distractions will surface out of nowhere!

Accept the 5MC. Get in God's Word every day and stay in it for 30 days. You’ll be amazed at the difference in how you walk in this world as you let His truth, wisdom and peace permeate your soul daily. God’s Word transforms...if you let it.

I’ll be praying for you all and that the 5MC can change your heart the way it changed mine.

God’s Blessings to you,

~ Dan
